Donate!

At the beginning of 2009, a friend and I started a company to try out the whole independent game developer thing. So far we are making ends meet by doing some contracting work for another local game company, but we'd like to be making money on our own IP as well. I've put in well over a thousand hours developing Chipmunk and learning the required math and physics. If you appreciate the work I've done with Chipmunk please consider donating! I'd be thrilled to know that time spent on Chipmunk could also help pay the bills.

Really you deserved great appreciation. You helped so much to the developer.
Actually i am new to iPhone Game Development and now i am developing one iphone game with cocos2D and Chipmunk. Just i started now to learning cocos2d and chipmunk,
If i will complete this game then i will get good money, so i can give you some donate but first i need to develop this game.

I wish that i can donate you soon.

Once again thanks.

Hi,
just a suggestion, maybe you could change Chipmunk's license for the GPL, so that FLOSS / hobbyists can continue to use Chipmunk, and write on the project page that commercial use can be done by buying a commercial license. There are several other projects that do it that way.

cheers

Well, my thoughts on that:
1) I really really hate the GPL. It's viral nature seriously limits the usefulness of GPLed software.
2) I don't get the impression that people follow or respect the GPL anyway.
3) I think it would hurt Chipmunk's usefulness, and would limit it's exposure. This would make for-profit related projects like Objective-Chipmunk even less viable.
4) I don't think many that prefer Chipmunk over Box2D would continue to feel that way if I changed the license.

Not really up on all the legalities, but why can't FLOSS folks use it just now. Isn't the licence just now is "Do what you want with it" i.e. less restrictive that GPL?

Well there is nothing from saying that you can't distribute Chipmunk with a GPL project. I think BluePrawn's point was that if I GPLed Chipmunk, then people could use it for GPL projects for free or pay for a license. Considering that most Chipmunk projects are not GPLed, I suspect that it would simply kill any interest in it rather than drive significant licensing sales.
